My love letters to my home and community for a super long while: Portland, Oregon!
TYPES OF FLOWERS
The only art piece here that goes beyond my Portland borders to everyone…and a little wordplay to boot!
Notecards and Signed Art Prints are available of “Types of Flowers” for the writer you are or the writer in your life! ♥
Each September, Portland residents gather around a few of the known resting spots of the migratory Vaux Swift birds who put on a dazzling display each twilight. The swifts circle and gather and circle and gather numbers as the sun begins to set and then see themselves in for the night in the adopted hollow — In the northwest neighborhood, Chapmann Chimney is a beloved congregating spot to watch. ♥
The folklore behind swifts often ties them to church or graveyards — I took some creative liberty of coupling the lore behind them with a loose rendering of Chapmann…
Deep in Forest Park are the bones of a STONE HOUSE, referred to as the Witch’s Castle by some…damp days are the best for exploring the Wildwood trail that will take you there.
OAK’S BOTTOM – SPRING
This piece is near and dear to me, being an early piece done whose reception encouraged me to continue on the path of creating cut paper pieces…I am always thrilled when I spy a heron within city limits!
